About the Role
As Principal Structural Geologist, you will play a pivotal role with planning and strategy for all structural geology activities at Nickel West. The role will support the long and short term business strategy at Nickel West, ensuring that there is adequate development of the structural inputs to exploration targeting, resource modelling, mine geology and mine planning.
Reporting to the Superintendent Geoscience Technical, you will work closely with the site based structural geology team and liaise with key stakeholders from the various functions at Nickel West. The role is based in Perth and will involve regular site trips to the Nickel West portfolio within the Agnew-Wiluna Greenstone Belt.
In this role you will have the opportunity to:
- Support exploration planning, resource geology, mine geology and other key functions of the Nickel West value chain
- Ensure that all structural geology activities align with the requirements of key business planning cycles and study phases
- Develop best practice structural data collection, storage and modelling techniques
- Project management of various major and minor structural geology projects
- Liaise with consultants and other BHP teams to support several ongoing innovation initiatives
- Facilitate structural geology coaching and mentoring for the various Nickel West geology teams
About You
- Degree qualified in applied geology. Post-graduate qualifications in structural geology or geochemistry will be highly regarded
- Experience with structural logging and field mapping (field, open-pit and underground)
- Demonstrated ability regarding the interpretation and direct application of 3D structural models with exploration targeting, resource modelling and mine planning
- High degree of competency with Leapfrog modelling software. Experience with Deswik or Datamine Studio RM may be beneficial
- Competency with analytical software packages including ioGAS, Isatis or Supervisor
- Competency with geospatial software systems including ArcGIS or similar
- Solid understanding of volcanic systems, sedimentary and metamorphic processes
- Exposure to underground and open-pit production environments and mining methods
