About the Role
As a leading resources company, BHP has an important role to play in the transition to a low carbon future. We have an exciting opportunity for an expert to lead BHP’s cokemaking test program as part of BHP’s Commercial and Sales & Marketing function. Reporting to the Head of Technical Partnerships (with a dotted line to the Head of Marketing Strategy, Coal) this position plays a pivotal role in coordinating product support initiatives for our premium steelmaking coal portfolio and its integration into the technical marketing and commercial plans for the coal sales and marketing team.
Key accountabilities:

Support the coal trading and marketing unit by leading R&D and test work, including:

Coordinating and guiding strategic and tactical coal product research projects to advance commercial and technical marketing team priorities.

Supporting translation of research and test data into predictive models for the assessment of commercial value and blast furnace performance during decarbonisation.

Owning R&D relationships and portfolio of projects, by managing vendors/partners, project plans, steering and coaching of researchers towards high quality and relevant outcomes.

Maintaining close collaboration throughout Sales and Marketing team, supporting the wider marketing strategy, mining operations and steel customer requirements

Representing BHP’s interests in various industry bodies or associations

Monitoring industry developments and technology changes in coke, iron and steel making and assessing the impact on BHPs portfolio, markets and customers, particularly in the trend towards decarbonisation.
About You
-
Industry-recognised expert in coke and iron-making and the role of coal and raw material properties
-
Bachelor's degree or higher, and/or at least 7 years’ experience in a key technical discipline in/or closely related to coke and/or iron-making in the steel industry

Deep understanding and direct experience of industrial and fundamental coke and ferrous R&D through academic and/or operations support

Strong statistical modelling capabilities

Commercially-minded with an ability to apply strategic thinking to solve complex problems and translate technical and other information into business outcomes for Sales and Marketing team

Experienced in engaging effectively and collaboratively with and influencing internal and external stakeholders at various organisational levels including executives

Project planning and execution skills that enable effective identification, prioritization and delivery of critical work through coordination of cross discipline and diverse teams

Coaching and mentoring approach with students and non-technical colleagues
