We are looking for a Principal Advisor to lead the Systems Improvement workstream for our newly established System Insights and Improvement team. Leading a small diverse team, you’ll be a values based leader responsible for driving Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s production improvement plan in the 0-12 month timeframe and identifying opportunities to refine our parameter planning process to increase conformance to production forecasts.

Reporting to the Manager Systems Insights and Improvements and working in an exciting and collaborative environment, you will provide strong leadership to the System Improvements team to:

  • Define system bottlenecks and build system wide operating tactics to target and prioritise system improvement opportunities across the 0 -12 month timeframe
  • Drive alignment and improvements across all parts of the parameter planning process to achieve a unified system outcome
  • Partner with a wide range of stakeholders across the business to understand performance gaps, inform our production forecasts and develop best practice
  • Provide opportunities, guidance and coaching to develop team capability
  • Champion a team culture that promotes the right behaviours of care, curiosity and courage.

What you’ll bring

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • An open mindset, with a demonstrated strength to develop strategies to solve complex problems
  • A background in Mining/Ports/Rail/Processing and an understanding of the value chain from Mine to Market
  • Experience working with large, complex data sets
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and prioritise work tasks
  • Enthusiasm for fostering connections and building and leading teams
  • Passion for curiosity, continuous improvement, innovation and technical excellence

Where you’ll be working

This role will be primarily based at our Perth Operations Centre, however there will be a requirement to be located at our Central Park Office on semi-regular basis for key stakeholder engagements. Ad hoc site travel will also be required.
