We are seeking an experienced candidate to join us, in the role of Principal Workforce Strategy. This role will partner with Heads of HR to build workforce strategies and plans for a diverse range of senior leadership teams. You will distil data into compelling insights and executable workforce investments, driving transformation in workforce productivity, capability and culture.
Working alongside passionate and ambitious workforce strategy colleagues, you will partner with the Manager Workforce Strategy to deliver on the long-term, global vision for workforce strategy and planning. This role is pacey, challenging and high impact. It requires strong technical skills across consulting, project management and data analytics, balanced with an ability to think strategically, systemically and with a customer mindset, to deliver workforce strategies and delivery plans that drive business transformation and secure capability for the future.
Responsibilities:
Workforce Strategy & Planning
- Drive our enterprise workforce strategy process by partnering with senior HR and Asset/Function leaders to assess future workforce requirements, define risks and opportunities, and recommend compelling workforce strategies/ initiatives.
- Provide specialist technical expertise and advice in capability and work design.
- Stay up to date on best practices and customer needs to continuously improve and automate internal processes and approaches, leveraging AI-enabled tools.
- Develop core deliverable documents and reports, used by our customers to make strategic decisions and allocate resources.
Workforce Analytics
- Conduct ad hoc and core analyses (supply/demand forecasting, scenario planning) using advanced excel skills.
- Translate data into meaningful insights, stories and recommendations.
- Support the technology roadmap for SWP in partnership with Workforce Analytics.
Organisational Development
- Maintain and develop the BHP Career & Capability Framework and other Job-related data, ensuring BHP’s future workforce is defined and data can be used across the people value chain for a range of use cases.
- Provide expertise on future of work and workforce design to senior leadership and HR.
- Support with the review and transformation of work systems and work design, in service of productivity and considering leading job design theory.
- Undertake workforce studies as required, to build organisational understanding of emerging trends and inform functional and business strategy.
About You
- Substantial experience in a large, global, corporate organisation in a Workforce Planning, Consulting, or senior HR role.
- Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Strategy, Organisational Psychology or a related field.
- Intermediate – Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel & PowerPoint) and demonstrated experience in advanced modelling techniques.
- Experience in Mining or related industry preferred

- Presentation/ Facilitation: Conducts presentations and facilitates workshops using storytelling to connect, influence and create buy-in from large/ complex stakeholder groups (e.g. senior Asset/Function leadership teams).
- Stakeholder Management: Works collaboratively across the organization to understand and anticipate the needs of different stakeholders groups and sources of influence. Prioritises engagement in these areas and works towards shared goals/outcomes.
