We are looking for a Principal, Enterprise Architect to join the Enterprise Architecture practice to focus on the standardisation of architecture across the Portfolio of Programs and Projects, Studies and Sustaining Capital portfolio, ensuring the “right technology” is selected for the right business outcomes; to reduce complexity, increase agility and drive competitive advantage. 

This role is a rare opportunity for an Enterprise Architect to join Rio Tinto in a role centered on business value creation whilst aligning technology solutions to strategic technology roadmaps. 

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Architecture and working in a challenging and exciting environment within our global Enterprise Architecture Team, you will: 

  • Collaborate in the creation of architecture vision, strategy and supporting execution roadmap, aligning with the corporate and IT strategy, industry trends, tooling, methods, and best practices.
  • Establish collaborative relationships and be a respected as a leader in both technology and business, demonstrating leadership in business and technical knowledge, stakeholder management and risk mitigation.
  • Act as the single point of contact for all architecture concerns relating to the assigned business unit/work domain, and coordinate/ orchestrate architecture activity and deliverables to meet the demands and expectations of that area.
  • Ensure the correct application of the intentional architectures, principles, patterns, standards, and policies to solve the problems / opportunities of the domain.
  • Contribute to the maturation of the enterprise architecture practice, role model Rio Tinto’s values and better ways of working, and be passionate about coaching, mentoring, and developing others to be the best versions of themselves.
  • Providing technology innovation to inspire strategic decision making across the Rio Tinto businesses.
  • Bring a prominent level of emotional intelligence, empathy and confidence in all dealings and act as a trusted advisor to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customer base.

What you’ll bring 

  • Experience in Operational Technology systems such as those used in Mining, Processing, Asset Management and the integration of such systems will be highly regarded.
  • Enterprise Architecture experience in at least one of the following IT disciplines (Enterprise Applications, Integration, Data) in a large corporate or equivalent consulting environment. 
  • Expert level experience in domain with fluency in emerging technologies. 
  • Proven experience in a variety of Information Technology (IT) roles focused on delivery, operational excellence, engineering and/or architecture. 
  • Ability to balance long-term "big-picture" and short-term implications of architecture decisions. 
  • Demonstrated experience influencing key decision makers or senior executives in a large, cross-functional team setting. 
  • Previous experience in business architecture and in delivering strategy, roadmaps, reference architecture and standards; experience in development of business cases.
