Process Control Engineer
Work Location: Christmas Creek. Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8/6 FIFO ex Perth
The Process Control Engineer, reports to the Senior Process Control Engineer and is responsible for the day to day running of the process control assets, building and developing the strong team culture, and identifying areas for improvement across the PC assets, wider team and operational management of the process control function
Key responsibilities include:
- Safety Practice - anticipate and proactively resolve potential problems to ensure a zero-harm environment through the design and formulation of technical solutions
- Engage in visible safety leadership through participation in safety observations and task inspections
- Develop, maintain and ensure ongoing adherence to site standards for the site control system
- Assisting integration of drives, instrumentation, and miscellaneous field devices to the existing control system environment.
- Management of the control system hardware and performance for the site, liaising with the maintenance and IT departments to ensure high availability.
- Identify and manage improvement activities including but not limited to new control logic, graphics updates, process optimization, instrumentation additions/upgrades, control loop tuning, and alarm management.
- Liaise with relevant departments to provide technical solutions for operational support and projects.
- Ensure all changes follow the Change Management processes.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to key users, facilitating training programs and ongoing mentoring of operational staff in the use of the control system.
- Technical Knowledge – Continue to develop processing and process control knowledge & skills to deliver continuous business improvements
- Build cooperative relationships to design new equipment and/or systems in conjunction with internal and external experts
- Design and implement purposeful improvement ideas based on a detailed examination of anticipated or recurring problems of a process control nature
- Support the ongoing maintenance of control systems assets including PLCs, servers, network and communication equipment, and field devices
Education and Experience:
- Tertiary Qualifications in electrical engineering, mechatronic or similar with 3-5 years’ experience as process control system engineer in fixed plant/mining, with strong development and commissioning background
- Working knowledge of mineral processing plants and balance machines
- Basic knowledge of Functional Safety Standards such as AS 61508, AS 62061: 2006, IEC 62061
- Experience with control system software and programming (GE/Emerson Machine Edition/PPS, Cimplicity SCADA, Proficy Historian, Proficy Change Management, Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley RSLogix 500/5000, Schneider Unity Pro, GE/Emerson HMI)
- Control system hardware (RX3i, RSTi I/O, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider)
- Experience with industrial communication protocol (Profibus/Profinet, EGD, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Strong understanding of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages (LD, FBD, ST, IL and SFC)
- Instrumentation and ELV knowledge
- Strong understanding of PLC programming data structures (UDFB, UDT)
- Experience with data analysis, SQL and C#
- Experience with VSD drives (ABB and Siemens)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills and continual improvement focus
