About the role

We are looking for a Process Engineer who will be responsible for working with the plant operations and maintenance teams to provide hands on technical expertise in the Carbon plant. Using structured problem-solving methodology, you will monitor, develop, and improve the performance of the area across the processes, people, and systems.
This role is a great opportunity for a flexible and highly organized individual who has exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Reporting to the Superintendent Process Control – Carbon and working in a challenging and exciting environment you will be:
- Participating in daily process operations by analyzing process data, reviewing data collection, and observing work practices to determine optimum state;
- Recommending and implementing remedial strategies to address process issues
- Driving and validating improvement projects to reduce variation and improve process capability of key metrics
- Identifying and implementing cost reductions and transformation projects to achieve site targets
- Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary Qualification in Process Engineering or relevant discipline
- Demonstrated Process Engineering experience, ideally within an industrial environment.
- It would be an advantage, but not necessary, having previous experience in any of the following fields, Solids handling systems, Rodding operations, Carbon bake furnace operations.
- Diplomacy and open communication skills to influence direct and encourage employee input and behavior.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to rigorously analyse data and provide solutions to process issues
- Excellent MS Office suite, literacy, numeracy and report writing skills
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Previous experience in any of the following fields, Solids handling systems, Rodding operations, Carbon bake furnace operations.

Where you will be working
Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
