About the roleWe are looking for a Process Engineer to provide technical support to Reduction lines, analyse system performance and ultimately improve the operational efficiency of the Smelter.
Resilience, self-motivation and exceptional communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to interface with broad stakeholder groups, displaying credibility, building trust and influencing outcomes. You will be a solution focused leader, level headed thinker and most importantly committed to driving positive outcomes for the business. Working Monday to Friday and reporting to the Superintendent Process Control, your focus will be on:
- Monitoring key reduction line metrics to ensure they remain within their specified limits and taking corrective action if there is any deviation.
- Developing reduction line standards as well as providing technical guidance and feedback to the reduction line controllers and management.
- Using engineering techniques to investigate, problem solve and implement relevant solutions.
- Helping to co-ordinate the quality control and acceptance of key input raw materials.
- Undertaking audits to ensure that reduction line standards are met and maintained.
- Initiate and complete general technical improvement projects while working closely with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Collaborating with the smelter technical team to ensure the stable, efficient operation of Reduction lines and achieve all key operating objectives in a safe manner.

About youTo succeed in this role, you will have:
- Strong focus and background in safety improvement.
- Tertiary level qualification in Chemical engineering
- Previous experience in a Process Engineering role within a heavy industry environment
- Statistical analysis capabilities.
- Previous coding experience and skills
- Good technical communication skills to both technical experts and lay audiences
- Proven experience identifying and addressing improvement opportunities in a similar environment.
Experience in reduction lines and electrochemistry as well as Power BI skills would be highly valued.

Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
