Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join the OPF team at Solomon. This role is responsible for providing technical support, operational guidance, and process engineering expertise to optimise OPF performance, product quality, yield and production capability.
This position requires a strong understanding of iron ore processing, hands-on plant experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Control Room, Quality and Metallurgical Technician teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate daily, weekly, and end-of-month reports and data on OPF production performance and metallurgical outputs.
- Monitor OPF performance and work closely with Operations and the Control Room team to maximise product throughput while maintaining product specification.
- Engage with OPF plant operators to support the correct operating philosophy of process units and drive consistent operational performance.
- Complete investigations and analysis on plant performance to identify process improvement opportunities and recommend or implement remedial actions.
- Liaise with the Quality team regarding feed blend to ROM to optimise product throughput and quality.
- Provide technical support and guidance to Metallurgical Technicians to ensure laboratory results are accurate and laboratory equipment is used safely and productively.
- Contribute to projects, plant trials, shutdown activities, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimising OPF performance.
- Support the development, review, and maintenance of Safe Work Instructions (SWIs), procedures, and training materials for process unit operations.
- Provide accurate and timely reporting to the business on OPF performance, metallurgical outcomes, and improvement opportunities.
- Identify key areas from shift reports and plant trends, then conduct prompt plant inspections to assess conditions and advise on any required operational changes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mineral processing, preferably within iron ore operations, although experience in other mineral processing environments will also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of dry and wet iron ore mineral processing unit operations.
- Tertiary qualification: Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in plant performance monitoring, troubleshooting, data analysis, P&ID, flowsheets and process optimisation.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with operational and technical teams.
- High level of computer literacy, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with production reporting, metallurgical accounting, and operational performance analysis.
- Experience using SAP and delay accounting systems is desirable.
- SCADA experience is desirable.
