Process Engineer
Work Location: Perth based (Balcatta)
Roster: Monday to Friday
In support of Fortescue’s focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives is the production of green iron ore and steel
Based out of our new Balcatta R&D facility, we are looking for a Process Engineer to join the Research and Development team to develop process designs for green steel production, supporting implementation from pilot through to commercial scale.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Process engineering role involving design and operation of pilot scale electrochemical and mineral processing facilities
- Developing technical specifications / basis of design for process systems
- Designing, sizing, and selecting equipment including piping, valves, relief valves, pumps, heat exchangers, utility systems
- Developing the process design, simulation, H&MBs, PFDs, P&IDs, operating and control philosophies, equipment data sheets, and any required process studies to be undertaken
- Engaging and managing contractors, equipment vendors and technical specialist as required including preparing detailed scopes of work
- Acting as key engineering interface with R&D scientists to tailor experiments such that laboratory results can be used to design and operate engineering scale facilities
- Communicating and collaborating with other engineering disciplines and project management
- Ensuring all works are completed safely and adhere to FFI Vision and Values
- Proactively deliver on the company's stretch targets
- Prioritizing and delivering work in a fast-moving environment
- Ensure process designs meet required safety standards and actively participate in design reviews, HAZOPs
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor of Engineering or the equivalent in Chemical or Process Engineering or Metallurgy
- Minimum 7 years industry experience
- Industry experience in either metallurgy and mineral processing, industrial chemical processing, oil and gas processing, or projects involving renewable energy would be highly advantageous
- Experience in FEED and detailed design including equipment sizing / selection, simulations, and preparing PFD, P&ID, H&MB, relief calculations, hydraulic calculations
- Experience in R&D, commissioning / startup, and pilot plant operation would be highly advantageous
- Ability to work with multiple disciplines, including; piping, processing, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and NPI
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Highly responsible, trustworthy, driven and value-focused knowledge seeker
- Enthusiastic in creating new and unique ideas and strategies
- Strong analytical abilities and proactive thinking to solve complex problems
- Proven abilities in formulating and successfully delivering strategies to drive value-add
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic team
