Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Port Hedland- Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

 

Roster: 4 Days /4 Nights /8 Off – residential in Port Hedland

 

We’re looking for a proactive and safety-focused Port Operations Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Port Operations Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in operating fixed plant safely and efficiently while supporting production targets and contributing to a strong team culture.

This is a hands-on role where your ability to think ahead, communicate clearly, and take ownership will directly impact performance and safety outcomes across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a positive team culture and demonstrate strong workplace behaviours
  • Collaborate with port teams and the wider supply chain to minimise disruptions and maximise productivity
  • Maintain a strong safety mindset by identifying, reporting, and managing hazards and incidents
  • Monitor sample station results to ensure product quality meets specification
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities across processes
  • Troubleshoot and manage minor plant and equipment defects
  • Plan and prioritise tasks effectively to optimise operational uptime
  • Step up to lead shift activities when the Operations Supervisor is absent
  • Stay connected with your team—communicating clearly, supporting others, and checking in on wellbeing

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, or similar heavy industry (highly regarded)
  • Shiploading and/or bulk materials handling experience (desirable)
  • Control room systems experience (advantageous)
  • Previous port experience and a current MSIC (desirable)
  • Familiarity with SAP systems (desirable)
  • A proactive, “can-do” attitude with a focus on continuous improvement—for yourself and your team
