Process Safety Engineer - HPS

Work location: Dawson Road, Perth Airport

Roster: Monday to Friday

Reporting to the Manufacturing Health and Safety Manager, this role will involve process safety in planning, designing, construction, testing and maintenance across a range of projects.  The successful candidate will also support engagement with internal, community, commercial and regulatory stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Foster relationships between FFI's HPS team, corporate H&S team and external stakeholders
  • Performing process safety and risk engineering duties including planning, designing, and overseeing construction, testing and maintenance of manufacturing projects.
  • Preliminary and detailed safety in design for process, infrastructure, equipment taking into account construction methodology, operations and maintenance philosophies
  • Analysing designs and operability of equipment as well as integrating equipment into new and existing facilities and advising on risk related issues
  • Planning and involvement in process safety risk assessment studies - including HAZID, HAZOP and SIL determination, preparing reports and supporting the tracking of actions through to closure
  • Compiling safety in design reports summarising the overall ALARP demonstration
  • Contribute to the development of standards, procedures / processes, guidelines and training materials for the effective implementation of the Process Safety Management System
  • Consult with key stakeholders and provide input to the development, implementation and maintenance of the Process Safety Management System
  • Ensure process safety standards are applied consistently to all phases of projects
  • Coach and develop FFI personnel and contractors in the implementation of the Process Safety Management System
  • Monitor H&S statutory and system compliance in relevant project jurisdictions

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in process engineering, process safety management or related field
  • Experience in chemical processing or related industry
  • Experience in delivery and facilitation HAZOP and LOPA safety studies
  • Functional safety experience
  • Knowledge of Australian and applicable international codes and standards as well as the applicable statutory requirements  
  • Safety in design engineering experience
  • Experience with definition and application of control measures and performance standards
  • Experience in delivery and facilitation of process safety studies
  • Excellent engagement skills across all business levels and with both staff and contractors
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate in a dynamic and challenging environment
  • Advanced to intermediate MS Office skills

Candidates with following accreditations will be given greater consideration:

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
  • Listing on the National Engineering Register (NER)
  • Registered Process Safety Professional (IChemE)
