Join Fortescue’s Technical Services Process Engineering – Magnetite team and help shape the next phase of performance improvement at Iron Bridge.
This Perth-based senior role gives you ownership of complex plant-wide optimisation challenges across comminution, classification, separation, water and process control.
You will combine process modelling, plant data, surveys, testwork and practical operational insight to develop solutions, lead trials and translate results into sustained plant improvements.
The role will work closely with site Metallurgy, Engineering, Geometallurgy and Operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain full-plant steady-state SysCAD models using survey, testwork and operating data.
- Diagnose plant constraints and identify opportunities to improve performance, efficiency and operating strategies.
- Lead process trials, surveys and laboratory or pilot-plant testwork from design through to implementation.
- Support investigations across comminution, classification, magnetic separation, water efficiency and wet-plant performance.
- Develop data tools and visualisations to improve process monitoring and metallurgical decision-making.
- Partner with Metallurgy, Process Control and digital teams to implement advanced control and data-analytics initiatives.
- Provide guidance on control philosophy, operating constraints, plant stability and process performance.
- Integrate mineralogy and geometallurgical information into process assessments, testwork and operating strategies.
- Communicate technical findings clearly and build alignment across Perth and site teams.
- Support magnetite process governance, including trial methodology, performance monitoring and technical decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Senior experience in mineral processing, process design, technical services or operations.
- Experience with process modelling tools such as SysCAD, IDEAS or similar.
- Strong plant troubleshooting and optimisation skills using data, modelling, testwork and sound engineering judgement.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A practical, collaborative and outcomes-focused approach.
Highly regarded:
- Experience in magnetite, iron ore or complex wet processing.
- Knowledge of grinding, classification, magnetic separation and slurry processing.
- Experience leading plant trials, surveys or laboratory/pilot-plant testwork.
- Exposure to advanced process control, Seeq or Python.
