Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Process Engineering Division is looking to recruit a Processing Lead to join the central operational support team.

Our new RTIO Process Engineering & Major Hazards Division provides world-leading technical support to improve performance of our current and future operations. We have technical development programs that are industry-leading and recognise the unique nature of the role.

This position will offer an experienced and highly motivated Senior processing professional the unique opportunity to be a part of the Rio Tinto Safe Production System (RTSPS) deployments across sites. RTSPS brings together our people, to design a system that takes best practices from every corner of Rio Tinto and other industries under one roof to become best operator.

Reporting to the Principal Processing Engineering & Metallurgy, key responsibilities will include:

  • Being the divisional representative for Rio Tinto Safe Production System
  • Engaging with senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Identifying opportunities and confirming best practises
  • Developing sustainable standards to support current and future strategy
  • Producing plant performance analysis and reports as required.
  • Managing one direct report (Senior Process Engineer)

This permanent position will be based in Rio Tinto’s Operations Centre located near the Perth Airport working Monday to Friday with flexible working arrangements and will require ad hoc site travel. 

What you’ll bring

To be considered applicants must have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Process Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent)
  • Significant process engineering or related technical discipline with fixed plant operational experience
  • Ability to work across discipline and geographic boundaries, connecting people to collaboratively solve problems
  • Experience in teams that have delivered improvements in safety and operating performance, and continuous improvement objectives
  • Strong demonstrated experience in lean principles
  • Previous experience in processing reviews and investigations with sound knowledge of statistical analysis methods including experience with Minitab or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Current ‘C’ Class drivers’ licence

Although not essential, experience with programming skills in VBA and/ or SQL will also be beneficial.
