The Global Fixed Equipment (FE) Capital Optimisation team are currently recruiting for a permanent Category Specialist based in the Perth CBD. 

This role is a significant opportunity for an individual with relevant commercial and global market intelligence experience, to become a part of a successful global team that manages spend in excess of $1B per annum. This role forms part of a high preforming team that are embedded on Major Projects across the globe to provide strategic commercial support to drive global leverage across spend, contractual & equipment standardising, supplier development and total asset lifecycle cost. This demanding role will require a commercially astute individual who appreciates the application of total cost of ownership and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills. The application must have a a genuine desire to succeed, deliver results and become a key FE team member and contributor.

Reporting to the Capital Procurement Manager Fixed Equipment, the key accountabilities for the role includes the following:

  • Collating and analysing detailed global market trends and supplier intelligence.
  • Delivering rigorous ‘fact base’ analysis that considers external & internal dynamics which will form the basis of category strategies and sourcing programs (together with the support of our category analysts).
  • Building and maintaining robust and productive global relationships with key internal stakeholders including D&T Contracts & Procurement and Execution teams, as well as senior management across all global product groups.
  • Working with D&T to ensuring that category strategies and all value levers are maximised and aligned to RT priorities.
  • Leading and supporting advanced supplier negotiations by leveraging Rio Tinto’s global demand to secure robust value for the business including CAPEX reductions, lifecycle and win-win focused contract arrangements, schedule guarantees and cost & long lead time reductions due to economies of scale.
