About the Role

As the Lead Procurement Site Engineering Projects, you will provide leadership to the team who plan, implement and manage contracts according to the approved strategy with an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.    As a contract and procurement professional, you will provide ongoing commercial support and guidance for existing, planned and innovative contract packages. 

A core focus of this role will be delivering end to end contract management as an integrated member of the Site Engineering Projects team and providing guidance and support to other members of the team. As part of the role you will be expected to foster collaborative relationships both internally and with external parties for the successful delivery of the Site Engineering Projects.

In this role you will:  

  • Develop of strategies, undertake sourcing, execute new contracts and manage contract variations compliant with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, Group Level Documents (GLDs), Functional Level Requirements (FLRs) and relevant statutory obligations
  • Ensure that market engagement is planned and executed to meet the project schedule, quality and cost objectives
  • Co-ordinate the drafting of high-quality tender and contract documents to minimize ambiguity, thereby leading to effective contract management
  • Take the lead in facilitating meetings with internal and external stakeholders to sponsor deeper relationships with all supply chain partners
  • Monitor performance of work under contract at both project and portfolio levels in line with contracted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Collaborate with project functions to implement systems and processes that support collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Maintain business intelligence of market conditions and external risks and opportunities.
  • Provide stewardship of the procurement process
  • Escalate contractual issues to relevant stakeholders and coordinate the resolution process including the facilitation and resolution of issues arising from claims, invoicing and rebates
  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader, engaging, developing and coaching your team

About You

Ideally, you will hold a tertiary qualification) or similar with experience within the mining and mineral resources industry. Previous experience with project procurement will be essential, with a demonstrated understanding of project delivery. 

You will have the opportunity to utilize your advanced engagement and collaboration skills in managing stakeholder relationships. Likewise, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and a high standard of oral and written communication skills.   You will also possess the following:

  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Significant stakeholder management experience
  • Experience leading a small team of procurement professionals
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational management skills
  • Understands the similarities and differences of various project delivery models (e.g. EPC, EPCM and Owners Team Managed), and the allocation of risks through the selection of the most effective commercial pricing models
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite of products, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project
  • Sound commercial judgement around application of contractual terms and conditions to ensure the contractors performs their obligations under the contract
  • Develop and implement advanced commercial techniques to leverage value creation opportunities
  • SAP experience and experience in a mature Contract Management System (CMS) is preferred
