Senior Procurement Category Specialist – Energy

The Global Energy procurement team have an exciting opportunity for a senior category specialist to join the team. In this role, you will be contributing to the development and execution of category and sourcing strategies within the portfolio (Explosives, Future Fuels, Hydrocarbons and Biofuels categories).

This role is based the Perth CBD in the Central Park offices, with flexible working arrangements available. Occasional travel may be necessary to meet stakeholders and suppliers.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, you will:

  • Maintain the highest standard of health and safety performance by implementing a personal safety plan, exhibiting behaviours consistent with zero harm

  • Develop and execute category and sourcing strategies in collaboration with key stakeholders

  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships at global and regional levels

  • Develop and support key stakeholder relationships with various Rio Tinto business units globally

  • Ensure supply chains are managed effectively for commercial and HSEC risks

  • Support category value creation initiatives and contribute your ideas and energy to innovate and build capability and knowledge within the portfolio

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in strategic procurement, end-to-end category management and supplier relationship management

  • High level of commercial acumen with a strategic mindset and a proven track record of delivering commercial innovation and value

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • An understanding of business process improvement and change management

  • Project management, problem solving and analytical skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in business or a related discipline desirable

  • Experience in energy procurement for the mining industry desirable

  • A deep understanding of energy and related raw material markets desirable
