Procurement Specialist

Newcrest is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Procurement Specialist to oversee all aspects of the procurement process for the planning and execution of the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project – a significant portfolio program of civil works execution; to safely deliver a major upgrade of the Tailings Dam for Australia’s largest gold mine at Cadia.
This long-term contract position (3+ years) will be offered either as a full time 5/2 roster (Mon-Fri) to Orange NSW regional residents, or as a 12/6 roster for FIFO / DIDO workers.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Coordinate the purchasing and procurement process for the project.
- Work closely with project managers to determine project needs and ensure timely delivery of materials, equipment, and services
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors to ensure cost-effective and timely procurement. Analyse and evaluate vendor quotes and negotiate pricing and terms.
- Monitor inventory levels and usage to ensure adequate supply of materials and equipment
- Manage purchase orders and contracts and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Identify and resolve purchasing issues and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of purchasing activities.
- Continuously improve and streamline the procurement processes to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements relevant to procurement management.
- Provide insights by way of cost, schedule, progress, commercial and change control that informs strategic and managerial decision making throughout the project.
The Procurement Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the project. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale projects, strong project management skills, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
You will also possess the following:
- Significant procurement experience for large-scale civil construction projects (infrastructure, roads construction, bulk earthworks or dam projects), with demonstrable knowledge of project management processes - essential
- Formal qualification in Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering (or similar related field) - desirable, but not essential
- Knowledge of procurement and contract law and regulations related to civil construction.
- Proven track record of successful procurement and contract negotiations, administration, and management
- Proficient in Aconex project management suite of applications (Aconex Accredited Professional highly advantageous)
- Problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential roadblocks and develop strategies to mitigate risks and keep projects on track.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to civil construction projects.
- Self-managed, motivated, and committed to working in a fast-paced environment.
