to contribute to a category that is undergoing a rapid transition towards renewable fuels to support decarbonisation. This a global category role responsible for the procurement of marine fuels which is critical to Rio Tinto Commercial’s marine operational and financial performance. This role is important in Rio Tinto’s net zero 2050 and scope 3 emission reduction ambition. The role interfaces with a broad range of stakeholders within both Rio Tinto Procurement, Marine, and other functions. The role will involve engaging a diverse network of stakeholders internal and external, building relationships with external partners and market participants.
Reporting to the Manager Hydrocarbons and Biofuels, this position presents a great opportunity for someone wanting to deliver commercial excellence in the supply of marine fuels and increasingly low carbon alternatives. It is an exciting time to join our team and make a positive impact on the Hydrocarbon and Biofuel portfolio and Rio Tinto’s marine operations. This position is available in either Perth or Singapore.
Support in development of customer relationships with all Rio Tinto Business Units
Support and develop strong supplier relationships at global and regional levels
Support in development of a deep global and regional market understanding of marine fuels
Contribute to the development and deployment of world class category strategies for marine fuels, and in the context of the broader energy strategy
Co-drive value creation and innovation through commercial strategy and frameworks, and market development
Maintain the highest standard of health and safety performance by implementing a personal safety plan and exhibiting behaviours consistent with zero tolerance.
Build and manage structured supplier relationships and supplier performance
Ensure suppliers’ strengths are fully leveraged in the supply chain
Ensure a familiarity and working knowledge of proposed government legislative changes and their impacts on Rio Tinto Business Units.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will ideally have:
A strong commitment to safety
A solid background in strategic procurement, category management and contracting
Strong level of interpersonal and influencing skills with experience in stakeholder management
Good level of commercial acumen with a strategic mindset and a proven track record of delivering commercial innovation and value
Negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience in business process improvement and change management desirable
Project management, problem solving and analytical skills
Advanced skills with the Windows environment, including use of the MS Office suite of products and ideally SAP or an equivalent ERP
Tertiary qualifications in business or a related discipline highly desirable. CIPS Certificate or Diploma in Purchasing or Supply is advantageous
