About the Role

In this role as Procurement Specialist Plant Processing & Labour  within the Nickel West Procurement Team, you will play a vital role in the development of multi-year procurement strategies, partnerships and sourcing activities.    The Plant Processing & Labour category is integral to the BHP business. It focuses on sourcing and managing vendors across processing and bulk chemicals categories to ensure the Asset delivers production in reliable and sustainable manner.    Role activities and duties include: 

  • Conduct end-to-end procurement activities such as but not limited to development of sourcing strategies, supporting stakeholders with scope development, management and co-ordination of tenders, develop negotiation strategy and participate in negotiations, identify opportunities for cost improvement and calculate how savings will be derived, contract drafting, preparation and management of relevant approval documents, execution and ongoing contract management;
  • Deliver value by leveraging fact based insight through analytics, understanding of contracts and driving strategic actions;
  • Build and maintain strong trusted relationships with external industry and internal asset & functional stakeholders;
  • Keeping abreast of key external trends both functionally and Supply market perspective, new innovation and newly emerging risks;
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to identify and execute opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership (i.e. considering not only price but utility, demand and productivity;
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies to deliver total value chain outcomes related to external spend using best practice tools;
  • Communicate strategies to all levels of internal stakeholders, from senior leadership to frontline operations;
  • Develop implementation and handover plan for contracts, to ensure that value is sustainably captured (which may include defining and tracking success measures); and
  • Assists the team with special projects that support the asset in delivering value and reliable production from time to time.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong commercial acumen to balance business priorities and ability to identify opportunities with a view of total cost of ownership, strong quantitative and analytical skills to build fact based insight and recommendations;
  • Ability to support the development and implementation of complex, regional and / or global categories sourcing strategies, tendering and sourcing;
  • Identify risks and appropriate commercial control options;
  • Ability to problem solve and think laterally to independently resolve issues and influence change;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills ;  
  • Approach work with a strategic mind-set including the ability to identify new opportunities and drive them to implementation;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, particularly for data analysis, MS Word, MS PowerPoint (experience using ThinkCell is highly regarded).
  • Be familiar with SAP and related systems such as the Global Contractor Management System; and
  • Background in procurement, processing, engineering, mathematics, law, commerce, finance or accounting would be beneficial.
