This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and collaborative Procurement Specialist to join our RTP Ports, Rail & Core Services team and deliver sustainable, value driven solutions across our Rail Track portfolio to ensure RTIO Rail’s network remains the most productive heavy haul network in the world.  With the opportunity to deliver commercial excellence across various Rail initiatives, we are looking for a procurement professional who:

  • Displays a curious mindset with the ability to transform opportunities into sustainable, commercially favourable deliverables.

  • Develops and delivers category and sourcing strategies that clearly articulate value levers of time, sustainability or cost.

  • Demonstrates the ability to think holistically, challenge norms and provide pathways to unlock further value across Rio Tinto’s rail network.

  • Works closely with stakeholder groups to understand demand, constraints, and synergies.

  • Articulates risks as well as opportunities to influence directions to ensure decisions are made with the best commercial outcome in mind.

  • Forms strong supplier relationships to understand current and future capability, leverage supplier strengths, and unlock the value obtained from systematic supplier relationship management.

  • Has a passion for team culture and demonstrates the application of our cultural blueprint and Rio Tinto’s values.

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:   

  • A curious mindset with the ability to formulate and present business cases to strategic methodologies.

  • Strong knowledge of procurement practices and responsibilities.

  • A track record of stakeholder and supplier influencing.

  • Sound negotiation skills and demonstrated experience leading contract negotiations.

  • The ability to work both independently and productively as well as contribute to a strong team environment.

  • Financial or analytical skills would be a benefit.

  • Prior experience in rail will be beneficial
