About the Role

We have a number of Superintendent roles available based at the Saraji Mine in Central Queensland. You will be responsible for leading a dynamic team of up to seventy employees - including four Coal Mining Supervisors and two Coal Coordinators to achieve a safe, on-time and within budget delivery of Coal Mining’s Production goals. The coal mining fleet consists of twenty (18) trucks, two 300t excavators and three large loaders plus ancillary equipment. The role is part of the broader Production Coal team that is a progressive, engaged and motivated team focused on continuing to improve our inclusive culture where everyone is valued. Your key focus will be to safely increase equipment utilisation and performance in order to surpass current benchmarks, guiding this site to a world-class standard.  You will develop and engage your people so that they share this goal and own initiatives designed to achieve it.

About You

We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster collaborative working relationships and your ability to consolidate and analyse information will provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.

You will possess the following:

  • A strong background in Truck and Shovel operations is essential for the role
  • Mandatory Qualifications of S1, S2, S3 & G2
  • Open Cut Overseer tickets are desirable, but not essential for the role
  • Contract management experience will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated people leadership and production experience at minimum Supervisor level within a Coal Mining environment, preferably to have had some exposure at Superintendent level
  • Demonstrated coal-mining equipment practical experience with a proven safety record
  • Ability to manage a high intensity mining operation with multiple interactions with other processes
  • Exposure to coal blending and ROM management
  • Ability to motivate, coach, lead change and develop established teams of experienced people
  • A demonstrated ability in continuous improvements around Safety, Cost and Productivity
  • Exposure to BHP Operating System and experience in Business Management will be highly regarded

Location

The Saraji open cut mine is a coal mine located near Dysart in the Central Queensland region of Australia. The mine is located 200 kilometres southwest of Mackay and 60 kilometres southeast of the mining town of Moranbah. The Saraji Coal Mine has coal reserves amounting to 648 million tonnes of coking coal, one of the largest coal reserves in Asia and the world. Coal produced at the Saraji mine is exported to overseas steel makers in India, the Americas, Europe, East Asia and South Asia.
