About the Role

Our Function, Projects’ Commercial is recruiting for the Program Manager, Major Projects Commercial role to lead a multi-billion-dollar growth portfolio, which will be based in Perth.

The Program Manager, Major Projects Commercial will build and lead a team, which will support the delivery of the multi-billion-dollar program. This support will include working with key stakeholders to set up and execute a multi-billion-dollar program strategy, driving commercial outcomes internally and with delivery partners, development and execution of complex commercial models and incentive programs. 

 In this role you will:

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Standards (Our Requirements and Business Critical Documents), Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Lead an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Provide leadership, direction, functional expertise, mentoring, coaching and guidance to the Major Projects Commercial team whilst fostering a positive team culture and recognizing the importance of people’s wellbeing.
  • Identify, build and develop talent and capability in Projects Commercial team. 
  • Develop and implement advanced business and commercial models to develop high quality program contracting strategies that yield overall value creation opportunities for our projects and overall growth portfolio.
  • Implement and manage strong and disciplined claims prevention and contract management practices;
  • Proactively identifiy optimization and standardization opportunities across projects within the portfolio to drive enterprise level Process Improvement initiatives within Projects Commercial;
  • Participate and support activities such that Projects Commercial team meets the Business Plan and KPIs;
  • Influence multiple internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with Project Directors to ensure the objectives of the program integrated key value drivers are met
  • Ensure local government and federal government legislation is well understood
  • Lead in the identification of programmatic opportunities for capital efficiency and productivity improvements;
  • Establish, maintain and govern risk and quality management plans to assure effective management of the program’s Contracts & Procurement scope of work;
  • Evaluate key learnings, industry leading practice and innovations in project contracting & procurement to identify opportunities for continuous Improvement;
  • Collaborate with Project Services to ensure provision of data requirements for program and projects reporting & control.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Functions to ensure alignment of functional standards particularly Head of Projects Commercial, Major Projects and New Developments 
  • Enable world class contract formation and management performance (with an emphasis on strategic and complex construction);
  • Understand risk allocation and outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals;  
  • Lead commercial excellence through continuous improvement  
  • Lead the implementation of appropriate systems, and processes based on project risk and complexity  

About You

To be successful in this role you will be a dedicated and passionate commercial leader with 22+ years’ proven experience end-to-end major multi-billion-dollar capital projects. Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Business, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management / Construction Science, Legal (Construction Law) or related discipline is required; Previous leadership and influencing roles across complex stakeholder environments.  Extensive experience in the execution of various contracting strategies and compensation models for both EPC, EPCM and Owner led execution delivery models on multi-billion-dollar capital projects / programs is required.  End-to-end commercial delivery cycle experience in support of the delivery of various Greenfields and Brownfields scopes, specifically scopes with a heavy facility engineering and management component is required.  Demonstrated experience in motivating teams in the pursuit of a high-performance culture to ensure safe, effective and efficient support to the development and delivery of project portfolio is a must. Experience in both project and operating environment is a plus.

  • Developed understanding of the contract life cycle from strategy identification and development to procurement to contract close out.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving capability, negotiation skills, influencing and relationship management with a passion for mentoring and coaching individuals and teams 
  • Pragmatic commercial outlook and exemplary judgement (balances business value vs. risk) to deliver best outcome for the multi-billion-dollar program
  • Previous on-site construction experience is a requirement.
