ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Residential option to live on Groote Eylandt considered.  

As the Program Manager, Structural Remediation, you will be responsible for our annual remediation program and bring it to life within budget and on schedule.

In this role, you'll collaborate with our engineering team and external consultants to identify and resolve issues, develop practical structural solutions, and ensure affected areas are operating safely. You'll also coordinate the various teams needed to make these projects happen.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Develop detailed scopes, manage comprehensive project plans, and execute works to safety and quality standards. Align projects with site priorities while controlling timelines, resources, and risks throughout delivery.
  • Lead and developengineers, supervisors, and trades to deliver results. Build team capability, ensure adequate resourcing, and maintain responsiveness to emergent issues while driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the interface between site operations, offsite engineering teams, and external contractors. Ensure timely provision of technical designs, facilitate reviews, and maintain clear communication across all project phases.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols through audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Manage the annual remediation budget, track expenditure against forecasts, and report program performance and outcomes to senior leadership.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Success managing structural remediation, maintenance, or engineering projects from planning through execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams with a strong structural focus, guide engineering professionals, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Advanced-level Microsoft Project skills for complex project planning, plus solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SAP for budget and resource tracking.
  • Track record of building productive relationships and maintaining clear communication across operations, engineering teams, contractors, and senior leadership.
  • Experience applying design principles and quality standards to ensure compliant, safe project outcomes across all deliverables.
  • Capacity to manage multiple concurrent projects, competing priorities, and diverse stakeholder needs while maintaining delivery standards.

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline or a relevant trade qualification with project management qualifications
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
