We are looking for a Project Controls Analyst to cover parental leave and work in the Rail Engineering & Strategy’s portfolio management office, to support Rail divisions capital management in Rio Tinto. 

The key focus of this role will be to provide capital coordination support, including planning, process & controls to Rail Engineering & Rail Operations at all stages of the project lifecycle.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor - Project Controls, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordination on Annual Capital Planning and 10YR Planning review and update
  • Coordination on Annual Physical Asset verification, quarterly PEWE and AUC activities
  • Coordination on project initiation, project setup in CPMS/CAPS/SAP, funding request process
  • Coordinate with Controllership to ensure PAC/IC/Pool approved projects budgets are released in SAP and advise project leads
  • Assist projects to update CPMS information, including project gate, risk, priority, cash flow, asset class, etc
  • CPMS hygiene checks on project gate, risk, priority, cash flow, asset class,etc
  • Track project spend for continuity in case of overruns requiring supplementary budget request
  • Track spend for studies projects (Define, OoM, PFS) for future capital projects planning/lookahead
  • Provide support on project spend reporting, analysis, journal, EOM accrual, etc
  • Project Closure administration, including project capitalisation, CPMS archiving, etc 
  • Support portfolio reporting processes (e.g., SteerCo etc)
  • Preparation of process maps, governance documents, training manuals
  • Maintaining and management of Portfolio Sharepoint Page

About you

To be successfully considered for this role you will have:

  • Degree in Project Management or relevant experience
  • Degree in finance or relevant experience
  • Advanced working knowledge of project control/project management processes (cost, resource, estimating or scheduling) and the tools used to deliver a sound governance function.
  • Proven ability to apply an analytical lens to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Effective relationship building skills with an ability to influence colleagues from across different teams.
  • An ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and the team.

Where you will be working

Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 15 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
