About the role

We are looking for a Project Controls Manager to join our Rio Tinto Projects team to lead the project controls functions for significant execution and study phase projects with Iron Ore’s growth portfolio. This role is a great opportunity to lead and motivate the Project Controls team and provide technical advice and support to Study Managers, Project Managers, and the broader Project Services team. You will be based in Perth and will travel to project sites as required.

Reporting to the General Manager Project Controls, you will be responsible for:

  • Partnering with Study Lead and Project Manager to deliver projects through study stage gates into execution
  • Leading the Owners Team project controls personnel embedded in the project team
  • Managing project controls practices and ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto Projects systems, policies, and procedures
  • Problem solving and providing advice to Project and General Managers regarding all project controls related issues including cost and progress, schedule and change management
  • Preparing and validating project reports, as well as regular auditing of project controls reporting, cost and schedule status
  • Providing input into the development and improvement of project controls procedures and practices to ensure procedures meet or exceed industry current best practice
  • Liaising with our Construction Contractors on a weekly basis to ensure alignment to plan and support accurate forecasting of cost and schedule
  • Act as a key connector across various Rio Tinto entities by interfacing with centralised and functional teams
  • Identify opportunities to set-up and integrate alternative project delivery strategies designed to maximise performance

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Extensive hands-on experience in project controls attained within owners team, EPCM and contractor environments
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Thorough understanding of project management and controls concepts

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering, Business/Commerce or similar
  • Project controls experience across multiple project delivery models and commodity groups

You should also be passionate about delivering pragmatic, optimised solutions and have a drive for results and an appetite for constructive challenge.
