In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key projects is the Infinity Train, which will harness gravitational energy and utilise regenerative battery electric technology to remove reliance on charging infrastructure. The Infinity Train project will contribute to FFI becoming a major OEM in the growing global market for green industrial transport solutions. Based out of our new Hazelmere R&D facility and reporting to the green fleet development Project Manager – Infinity Train and matrix reporting to the Principal - Finance, we are presently looking for an experienced Project Cost Controller. The role is responsible for the implementation of project controls management, processes and procedures, development of project control capabilities and the provision of capital budgeting and cost forecasting services and support.
Key accountabilities will include:

Management of project controls system, processes, and procedures to ensure a consistent approach to all project controls activities including capital budgeting, tracking, and reporting, cost forecasting, cashflow and performance analysis

Management of the cost and progress reporting process to provide consistent, accurate and timely reporting to the project management team including identification of any required actions to maintain approved baseline targets.

Providing support and mentorship for the development of junior project controllers

Ownership, oversight, and hands-on participation with key project controls functions including:

Application of the project Work Breakdown Structure to ensure all systems, processes and reporting reflect the standard approach on the projects

Support quarterly capital budgeting process and reporting

Lead the capital appropriation process for projects, monitor purchase orders & contracts in cost system and SAP
-
Review and verify invoices, estimate accruals before End of Month and allocating expenses to cost centres and WBSs
-
Forecast cost to complete and highlight areas of risk to mitigate cost overruns against baseline plan and budget

Preparing Monthly and other reports and attending monthly package reviews

Assist in management of change (MOC) process

Collect cost and progress information from both internal and external parties to report on earned value, forecast cost to complete (FTC) and forecast final cost (FFC)

Ability to transpose earned value metrics into tabular S-curve charts, highlighting budget, earned, forecast FTC and FFC
-
Work closely with Project Managers to implement the earned value management (EVM) process of cost account status reporting, accruals, schedule status and forecasting, provision of progress and variance analysis reporting

Ability to monitor and audit cost management system and SAP to ensure accuracy between the two systems and advise management of any significant variances

Establish positive working relationships with all parties involved
Qualifications and skills required:

5+ years’ project cost control experience on complex engineering projects

Degree qualified (bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Commerce/Finance and Project Management) or internationally accredited project controls certification

Demonstrated experience managing and reporting the cost components of large-scale, complex projects; including developing and managing a progress reporting methodology for a complicated design effort

Sound understanding of project cost control processes and techniques including methods for transitioning from study estimate to project budget, project cost and cash flow forecasting and analysis

Exposure to full project life cycle, from concept through to execution, and the associated gate movements
-
Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge regarding project cost control systems, finance systems and reporting applications, their database management and administration
-
Strong communication skills, ability to interface with project and corporate stakeholders
-
High level of computer skill with advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and MS Office package abilities
