Who we’re looking for
Reporting directly to the Specialist – Autonomous Systems you will work with internal stakeholders and external consultants to contribute to the success of the Mining Innovation & Automation team.
You will identify and communicate improvements that can increase the performance of Newcrest operations, not limited to: health and safety, mine productivity, cost saving initiatives, procedural improvement, implementation of emerging technologies.
Other responsibilities may include:
- Liaising with stakeholders to identify processes within the underground mine that can be improved, and made safer, via automated/robotic solutions.
- Formulating the scope and technical specifications of project deliverables.
- Designing and developing solutions and applying control systems.
- Studying the feasibility, cost implications, and performance benefits of proposed solutions.
- Working with execution teams to test and implement successful solutions; and
- Acting as the interface between Newcrest stakeholders and consultants, to ensure correct and consistent communication is relayed.
As an ideal candidate for the Project Engineer role, you would have a strong background in mechatronics or a related field, as well as experience with automation and robotics. Your expertise in software development for control systems and ability to adapt technology for specific purposes will be highly valued, as will your project management skills and ability to effectively communicate and manage stakeholders.
You will also possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering – Mining, Electrical or Mechatronic
- Heavy Industry or Mining Experience
- Project Management Certification (desirable)
- Functional Safety Certification (desirable)
