About the Role

Reporting to the Area Lead Engineer (Materials Handling projects), this role as a core project team member will offer the opportunity for you to expand your career and work closely with, and learn from, other functions including Studies, Delivery and Commissioning.

You will lead the execution of multi-disciplinary engineering designs and the verification of constructability, operability and maintainability across all project stages. You will be the conduit between Tier 1 Engineering Consultants and the project team to challenge and drive project value, safety and sustainability.

Projects will be challenging, large, complex and varied, giving you exposure across all of BHPs’ ore handling operations and facilities at both Port and Mines.

This role is based in Perth, Western Australia on a 5:2 basis with flexibility to work from home.

In this role you will:

  • Develop project user requirements, engineering management strategies and scopes of work.
  • Provide engineering management through all project phases from inception to construction, commissioning and handover to enable the delivery of superior safety, cost and quality outcomes.
  • Manage tier 1 external engineering consultants to develop engineering deliverables in accordance with statutory requirements and BHP processes and technical standards.
  • Drive value through challenging requirements and designs, consultant performance management and facilitation of engineering review workshops.
  • Be a risk champion to identify and effectively manage safety, commercial, schedule and technical risks throughout all project phases.
  • Review engineering designs using an applied understanding of design, construction, operation and maintenance requirements and practices.
  • Develop and manage project and stakeholder requirements, plans and schedules within time, cost and resource constraints.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the business and externally.

About You

Your proven project and engineering management, and/or studies project development experience for large multidisciplinary projects, ideally within mining will be well suited to this role.

In addition the successful candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary engineering qualification.
  • Experience working with and managing engineering consultants and engineering design deliverables.
  • Effective problem solver, influencer and possess outstanding communications and stakeholder management skills at all levels.
  • Divergent and convergent thinking skills, and a strong understanding of business value.
  • Resilient, with the ability to work under pressure and effectively manage priorities.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to effectively manage and communicate change.
