Project Engineer – Mechanical

Work Location: Solomon

  • Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.

You will be responsible for managing brownfield sustaining and replacement capital projects in a fixed plant environment, over the full project lifecycle from concept through to final commissioning and handover. Project values are typically in the range of $100k to $5M and are run across the Firetail and Kings Ore Processing Facilities, Stockyards and Train Load Out. The value this role brings to the organisation is in delivering projects that improve safety, reduce C1 cost, and maintain reliable plant throughput.

This role would suit a person with experience managing brownfield site improvement projects, who thrives in a site-based environment, and is looking to expand their project management capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project Management/Lead duties
  • Troubleshooting and commissioning
  • Project scoping, cost forecasting and management
  • When required work extended roster and night shift for shut coverage 
  • Manage capital expenditure requests
  • Authorise project scope documents for design/supply/install
  • Engaging vendors and managing the design process
  • Engaging vendors for supply and managing the procurement process
  • Liaising with weekly and shut planning teams to schedule works
  • Engaging installation vendors and managing on-site execution

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in general aspects of mechanical engineering
  • Significant experience running capital projects in a fixed plant environment
  • Mine site-based experience working in a similar role
  • Proficient in SAP is preferred 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
