Project Geologist

Fortescue is now consistently producing over 180 million tonnes of iron ore per year and has an exciting future ahead as it diversifies its business to become an integrated, global green energy and resources company.

Iron Bridge is Fortescue’s US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation.

Title: Project Mine Geologist

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue Centre & Bennett St - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people. (Iron Bridge. Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.)

Roster: Peth Based, flexible arrangements, Full time or Part Time, Office Based or Working From home

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Project Geologist to join the Operations Planning team at Iron Bridge. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of new, large, deep open-pit greenfield operations. This will initially be offered on a fixed term basis, reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, your focus will be to ensure geological estimation functions are carried out to a high standard to support safe and efficient mine production. The role requires excellent interpersonal, leadership and time management skills.

Key accountabilities:

• Assist in building and maintaining grade control systems and procedures.
• Drive continuous improvement of the team/processes, assisting the Senior Mine Geologist.
• Continuously develop and improve understanding of the orebody.
• Provide training and mentoring to mine geologists, graduate geologists, and geology technicians.
• Designing and coordinating of grade control drill programs for short- and medium-term planning requirements.
• Generation of grade control models incorporating data from blast cone sampling, down hole logging and reverse circulation drilling.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

• Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience.  
• Ideally – Strong previous experience in open pit, hard rock operations.
• Solid working knowledge of Vulcan, AcQuire/SQL databases, and MS Office.
• High level of enthusiasm and enjoys overcoming technical challenges by developing new skills and High level of administrative and organisational skills.
• SQL, Power BI, and Python programming experience and knowledge is desirable.
• Experience with Autonomous mining & fleet management systems will be advantageous.
