Project Geologist - Diamond Drilling

Work Location: Various sites across the Pilbara (depending on drilling programmes)

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth

Reporting to the Senior Diamond Geologist, the Project Geologist is responsible for supporting the diamond team through the programming and review of the various scopes issued from our stakeholders. The Project Geologist will be mentored in leadership and be given opportunities to step up to lead site teams as we aim to meet our team deliverables across all of FMGs sites and Project Areas.

Key Responsibilities include: 

  • Maintain a strong field presence to maintain the visible leadership within the team, promoting safe work practices from contractors and FMG staff with the support of the drill safety team
  • Assist in the planning, management and execution of various diamond drilling scopes
  • Liaise with different stakeholders (site and Perth based) to ensure works are completed as efficiently as possible
  • Coordinate the activities of the geological team and contractors in carrying out the daily work plan and ensure that their activities are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets
  • Provide support to field geologists for logging validation and instrumentation installation/testwork
  • Validation of data, reports and geological models
  • Create, validate, and report against scope progress and completion
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the department by identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology or similar
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in iron ore preferred, with experience in managing drill programs likely to intersect fibrous materials
  • Additional experience in different commodities and industries highly regarded
  • Solid understanding of QA/QC processes and Diamond drilling logging
  • Strong skills in the use of Vulcan (preferred), ArcGIS (required) and acQuire (required)
  • Experience with contractor management and project execution
  • Class C manual WA driver’s licence
