Project Health and Safety Manager
Work location: Brisbane, QLD
Roster: Monday to Friday
FFI has identified the opportunity to develop a green ammonia facility at Gibson Island, Brisbane, through construction of a hydrogen production facility and refurbishment of an existing gas-based ammonia production facility, owned and operated by others.
Reporting to the Project Director, the Project Health and Safety (H&S) Manager has ultimate accountability for the safe construction, commissioning and start-up of the hydrogen production facility. This includes the preparation, implementation and monitoring of all construction and commissioning health and safety systems and processes, and coordinating the development and approval of the Major Hazard Facility (MHF) safety case.
The Project H&S Manager shall exhibit strong leadership to support the entire Project team in implementing safe practices throughout Project execution and commissioning.
Key responsibilities:
- Write and implement the Project Health and Safety Management Plan and supporting health and safety documentation for the Project.
- Prepare and implement project health and safety activities in accordance with Fortescue health and safety systems.
- Manage internal coordination of inputs required to support development of the MHF safety case, and act as the focal point to the consultant preparing the safety case and supporting MHF approval.
- Plan and ensure relevant health and safety training and onboarding has been conducted to the project requirements.
- Provide communications to the project in relation to health and safety messages.
- Maintain health and safety statistics and reporting for the project.
- Review specialised contractors’ health and safety documentation to ensure it meets legal requirements.
- Ensure compliance and conduct audits on the project to health and safety work practices including specialised contractors.
- Ensure investigations are conducted and reviewed where required.
- Work closely with the project team to ensure contractors are managed appropriately on site and that health and safety strategies meet regulator expectations.
- Drive a consistent approach to the management and application of health and safety management processes across FFI and its associated contractors.
- Participate in contractor management assessments and reviews as required.
- Produce regular project progress reports for internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Achieve and maintain effective communication with the project H&S team, and other internal and external stakeholders at all times.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety, or equivalent
- Lead Investigator qualifications desirable
- Lead Auditor qualifications desirable
- 15+ years’ experience in project health and safety, from feasibility studies through to start-up.
- Prior experience in a site-based construction role essential.
- Prior experience in MHF safety case development desired.
- Working knowledge of Queensland health and safety legislation, relevant standards and codes of practice.
- Knowledge and experience in developing, implementing and maintaining construction health and safety management systems.
- Excellent organisation, communication, co-ordination, planning and reporting skills.
- Proven ability to manage and influence team members and develop an effective culture through mutual respect and commitment.
- Foster teamwork and build trust internally and externally with all key stakeholders.
- Effective communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence critical decision agreements regarding safety.
- Recognise diversity of opinions and the varied approaches to achieving project objectives.
- Advanced computer skills for MS office, Adobe and database software applications.
