We are looking for a Project Lead to lead the Diesel Transition Program (DTP). This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with strong strategic and commercial acumen

To a play a critical role in the Group Decarbonisation strategy.

The DTP is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to reduce diesel-based carbon emissions. The work of this team includes the acceleration of technical solutions that will deliver Rio Tinto’s ambitious 2025, 2030 and 2050 emission reduction goals. Rio Tinto has an ambitious strategy to grow our business and decarbonise. From sourcing mining solutions of the future, to creating businesses with host communities, to building new supply chains around our greenfield assets, the importance of Procurement in Rio Tinto’s success has never been greater.

Reporting to the General Manager Global Equipment and Diesel Transition, and part of the broader Rio Tinto Procurement and Commercial team, you will be:

  • Leading a high performing team of professionals within the Diesel Transformation Program ensuring their activities align with business priorities and requirements
  • Accountable for Rio Tinto’s Diesel Transition portfolio which will include defining the overall portfolio of initiatives, scoping of projects and management of broader resource allocation
  • Develop funding proposals for key decarbonisation projects, including electrification and alternative equipment
  • Maintaining regular interactions with Rio Tinto’s OEM supplier to develop technology solutions
  • A valued member of the Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Working Group that oversees broader HME strategy
  • Play a key role in the Rio Tinto Procurement team, working in collaboration with peers across the business coupled with our Rio Tinto Energy and Climate team who manage overall decarbonisation journey
  • Remain connected to operations and asset management to develop a deeper understanding of the operational/implementation realities
  • Build strong and productive stakeholder relationships with global product groups, business units, major projects and operations; in order to understand their unique requirements and ensure that the various sub categories and support functions are aligned and delivering against these requirements

  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to drive change with the ability to quickly convert challenges/ opportunities into clearly scope projects ready for execution
  • A proven track record of achieving successful outcomes through negotiation, influencing and collaboration
  • A strong track record of building robust, collaborative and productive relationships in a global setting
  • Proven understanding of mining equipment; operational demands, maintenance challenges, supply chain, OEM suppliers etc
  • Demonstrated leadership capability across multi-disciplinary teams, with a focus on caring and collaborative behaviours
  • Experience within management consulting firms would be highly regarded 
  • Degree qualified in an Engineering, Business or Commercial discipline
  • In addition, the successful candidate will have a passion for continuous improvement, innovation and technical excellence
