Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Partner with the Manager – Sustainability to deliver sustainability initiatives under the Chief Officer’s leadership. Provide group-wide leadership in technology, digital and applied innovation to deliver Yancoal’s sustainability, productivity and long-term development objectives. The role bridges strategy and site execution, turning innovation into operational outcomes in partnership with Sustainability, Asset Management, Operations and Procurement.

The role converts strategy into delivery by:

  • Leading and executing the enterprise technology and innovation strategy, aligning initiatives to business objectives, productivity, safety, and long-term competitiveness.
  • Fostering a high-performance, innovation-driven culture that supports disciplined experimentation, continuous learning, and scalable outcomes.
  • Establishing and overseeing enterprise-wide investment governance frameworks, ensuring capital is prioritised toward high-value, high-impact initiatives.
  • Driving accountability for value realisation by partnering with business leaders to define, track, and deliver measurable benefits from technology investments.
  • Building and uplifting technology and innovation capability across sites and corporate functions, including talent development, frameworks, and communities of practice.
  • Developing and managing strategic external partnerships with OEMs, vendors, universities, startups, and industry bodies to accelerate innovation outcomes.
  • Integrating digital, data, and automation strategies across the asset lifecycle—from design and acquisition through to operations, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Partnering with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Procurement to embed technology into core operating models, improving reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Leading the enterprise digital transformation agenda, including data, analytics, automation, AI, and operational technology across all sites and functions.
  • Sponsoring and governing major digital platforms and systems, ensuring successful delivery, adoption, and realisation of business value.
  • Driving the development and scaling of advanced analytics and AI use cases, improving decision-making across maintenance, production, planning, safety, and capital allocation.
  • Ensuring technology solutions are user-centric and operationally embedded, delivering tangible improvements in productivity, reliability, and risk reduction.

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Technology, Data/Analytics, or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MBA) desirable.
  • Maintenance and Asset Management Certificate desirable
  • Practicing Certificate of Mechanical Engineering Manager desirable
  • Demonstrated leadership in enterprise technology, digital transformation and/or applied innovation in industrial or resources environments.
  • Strong governance and commercial discipline: portfolio prioritisation, business cases, benefits tracking.
  • Proven ability to work across sites and functions and embed solutions operationally.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement with site teams and external partners (OEMs, vendors, universities).
