Project Mine Geologist
Work Location: Iron Bridge. Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.
Roster: 8 days on and 6 days off; FIFO ex Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Project Mine Geologist to join the Operations Planning team at Iron Bridge. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, large and deep open-pit operation.
This permanent position is offered on an 8:6 roster with a competitive remuneration package.
Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, your focus will be to ensure that all mine geology functions are carried out to a high standard, ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate achievement of mine production targets.
The role requires excellent interpersonal, leadership and time management skills.
Key accountabilities:
- Adhere to Fortescue’s visions, values and statutory obligations
- Assist in building and maintaining grade control systems and procedures
- Drive continuous improvement of the team/processes, assisting the Senior Mine Geologist
- Manage day-to-day mine geology functions to ensure consistency and quality
- Drive mining hygiene focus items on a daily basis
- Continuously develop and improve understanding of the orebody
- Provide training and mentoring to mine geologists, graduate geologists, and geology technicians
- Fill in for mine geologist absences and workload as required and act for the senior mine geologist as required
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience
- Current WA C-Class manual driver’s licence
- 5+ years’ experience in open pit operations, 2 years in a mine geology role
- Solid working knowledge of Vulcan, AcQuire/SQL databases, and MS Office
- High level of enthusiasm and enjoys overcoming technical challenges by developing new skills
- Demonstrated exposure to continuous improvement processes/projects
- High level of administrative and organisational skills
- Previous experience as a geologist within Magnetite is desirable
- Experience using collaborative platforms like SharePoint will be advantageous
- SQL, Power BI, and Python programming experience and knowledge is desirable
