Quality Assurance Officer

Work Location: Newman - Fortescue’s Metallurgical Centre of Excellent is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli People.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth

An excellent opportunity exists for a Quality Assurance Officer to join the Metallurgy and Resource Estimation team at our Metallurgical Laboratory Facility in Newman. This is a full-time position, the perfect opportunity for a driven, hardworking person to further develop and expand their technical skillset and get exposure to another area of our awesome business.

This is a non-mine site-based role located close to the town of Newman with the workplace a short two-minute walk from a small camp.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for effective QA/QC checks for sample processing to ensure accurate and precise measurement of the chemical and physical properties of the iron ore samples
  • Create process flow and log sheets for test work programs, in consultation with test work stakeholder(s)
  • Collate, review and report the results of test work programs to a high standard and in agreed timeframes
  • Communicate and provide feedback to the Metallurgical Technicians
  • Liaise closely with onsite Supervisors, Metallurgists and Geologists as well as the team in Perth

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A strong understanding of sampling theory and metallurgical laboratories, preferably in iron ore. Data validation (Essential) and a solid understanding of QAQC processes
  • Quality systems knowledge/ computer literacy in MS Office, Excel (essential) and LIMS
  • Sound knowledge of minerals processing and the plant and equipment used (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy when collecting, recording, and maintaining data and relevant documentation
