We are looking for a Quality Measurement Operator to join the Dampier Quality Measurement Team and ensure that QA/QC targets are being met and adhered to by collecting and preparing samples for physical and chemical analysis to a high standard to identify tonnage grade, all in accordance with the safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Working in a residential role (5,5,4 shift rotational roster) and reporting to the Quality Measurement Supervisor, your role will be:

  • To collect, prepare and analyse iron ore samples to a satisfactory standard and in accordance with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure continuous and efficient operation and guardianship of manual and automated sample stations, laboratories and equipment. 
  • Conducting ISO9001 equipment checks, liaising with the shift supervisors to ensure that QA/QC target performance is being adhered to.
  • Perform equipment and plant checks in alignment with the work management process, identifying, containing and reporting equipment defects.
  • Ensure timely processing throughput of all samples in accordance with established guidelines to the customer.
  • Providing advice and problem-solving capability where required
  • Identifying, implementing and sustaining improvements to laboratory practice and processes and ensuring consistency across all teams in the lab
  • Report accurate analysis results within specified timelines to core areas of geology, metallurgy, marketing and other clients by adhering to appropriate ISO standards in relation to sampling, analysis and reporting of shipping, production, metallurgical, pit and other samples
  • Actively working within Rio Tinto’s Safety Policies and Procedures and support team members in the same manner to achieve and maintain zero injury and occupational illness

About youTo be considered for this role, you will have: 

  • An Australian Manual C-Class Drivers licence
  • Experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control
  • A strong commitment to safety systems and procedures
  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques and/or a trade qualification (highly regarded)
  • A desire to move to Karratha

Where you will be working

Our four independent shipping terminals at two locations, Cape Lambert and Dampier, are managed as a single port system. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, product stockpiling and blending, and ship loading. Employees reside in Karratha which is located 1,500 km north of Perth in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
