In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and carbon neutrality targets, Green Fleet is the incubator for the development of green technologies and pioneering solutions which are integral to realising Fortescue’s decarbonisation targets, whilst being equally relevant in the broader global market.

Based at our Hazelmere & Redcliffe R&D facilities, reporting to the Green Fleet Head of Customer Engagement, we are searching for a Chief Product Specialist. This role will work with our strategic partners and other key suppliers to deliver a suite of battery electric rolling stock products, the aggregation of which will realise the Infinity Train concept. The Chief Product Specialist has accountability for defining and managing through the life cycle of the product, the target market, potential sales and product features that are required to ensure that the product is competitive in the marketplace. 

Key accountabilities:

  • Overall accountability for product competitiveness in the market
  • The Voice-of-Customer within the product program, working collaboratively with the Chief Product Engineer and Chief Product Manager.
  • Liaison with product sales and marketing and potential customers to develop a deep understanding of the Rail market
  • Definition of product target market (serviceable obtainable market) and potential sales (total and by year)
  • Assessment and definition of target customer need
  • Definition of product attributes to achieve customer need requirements
  • Competitor benchmarking and assessment of relative product positioning
  • Championing the voice-of-customer during the product delivery process to secure competitiveness at the point of sale
  • Definition of product life-cycle enhancements to maintain competitive position

Qualifications and skills required:

  • An experienced industry rail professional
  • 15+ years’ experience in rolling stock operations or sales (multiple geographies desirable)
  • Extensive knowledge of global rolling stock market, customers and customer needs
  • Extensive knowledge of the competitive landscape for heavy haul rolling stock products
  • Knowledge of new & emerging technologies and its impact on rolling stock competitor positioning
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills with the knowledge and experience to mentor others
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross functional roles – programme mgt, operations, sales
  • Business leadership experience, driving a culture of broader business improvement
  • Technical degree desirable (STEM or Operational management)
