About the role

We are looking for an Engineer Reliability – Track Machines and Ancillary assets to be part of the Regional Rolling Stock Maintenance Engineering Team at Dampier. The primary function of the role is to improve asset reliability and cost through reliability analysis and delivery of reliability improvements on track machines and ancillary assets that are currently used to maintain our 1700km rail network. Track machines and ancillary assets include, but not limited to ballast cleaner, ballast trains, rail trains, fuel trains, mobile flash butt welders, mainline/switch tampers, regulators, pettibones, bobcats, railkings etc.

This role is a great opportunity for an expert in Root Cause Analysis and maintenance tactics for Track machine and ancillary assets to join our diverse and technical team of experts. Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will be:

  • Responsible for Track machine & Ancillary Assets Defect Elimination process - Identify & prioritise defects, facilitate / participate in root cause analysis and manage the critical defect elimination project portfolio for track machine & ancillary assets.
  • Improve site MTBF and MTTR by using rail system reliability modelling and RCA process.
  • Conduct reliability analysis and interpret failures or unscheduled loss/cost data and make valuable recommendations to improve our business. This requires investigating faults recorded in daily maintenance shifts logs and SAP notification/workorders.
  • Work closely with track machine, ballast cleaner and wagon maintenance superintendents, supervisors and maintainers to obtain the necessary support to implement defect elimination culture at all levels.
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance team to resolve asset breakdowns. Develop scope of work, methodology and ensure compliance to relevant standards for short term projects.
  • Support the maintenance team with asset management and work management skills.
  • Engagement of external vendors where needed for short & long term projects.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical / Electronics.
  • Understanding rail safe operating procedures.
  • Relevant engineering experience in heavy haul rail environment, railway maintenance machineries, heavy mobile equipments, reliability practices etc.
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and problem-solving techniques.
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and maintenance strategy development skills.
  • Failure-Mode-Effect-Criticality-Analysis (FMECA) facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Understanding of the data analytical tools: Power BI, Spotfire, Excel, SAP and APM. Experience with programming languages and SQL is desirable.
  • C Class Driving Licence
