We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, you will be a part of a dynamic and motivated team. The primary responsibility for this role is to deliver optimum fleet performance over the asset lifecycle, at minimum cost. 

The role will require you to: 

  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve safety, reliability (MTBF) and availability and reduce costs;
  • Optimize equipment maintenance strategies and tactics;
  • Collaborate closely with the maintenance and planning teams to implement and generate continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Scope, design and implement site engineering projects;
  • Conduct failure analysis on downtime and critical component failures.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering and/or HV Electrical Trade with extensive OEM/Mining operational experience; 
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience working with an open cut mining fleet (Draglines, Electric Rope Shovels, Electric Wheel Loaders or Electric Drive Haul Trucks);
  • Site-based experience working directly with diverse maintenance teams;
  • Experience in leading and defining maintenance strategies and tactics;
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a large team environment;
  •  Experience in leading condition monitoring activities;
  • Experienced in life cycle modelling, financial analysis, and financial justification;
  • Experienced practitioner in FMECA and RCA;
  • Detailed knowledge of CMMS systems, with specific knowledge of SAP;
  • Proficient in conducting statistical analysis downtime data and CMMS data.
