About the role: We currently have an opportunity to join the mechanical engineering team at the Wambo underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer Manager, this role will be a great opportunity for a graduate level, or in the process of obtaining tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering, to get your foot in the door of a progressive mining operation and receive coaching and mentoring from our highly experienced engineers. This is a hands-on role where you will gain experience with all facets of mechanical plant across the operation, preparing you well for career advancement.
The Wambo Mine complex includes underground mining and coal processing and handling activities and is located 30 kilometres west of Singleton. The complex produces metallurgical and thermal coal for export and domestic markets.
Duties will include:
- Maximise equipment reliability through root cause analysis of delays and component failure
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve reliability and availability levels of all Mining plant and equipment
- Lead the Peabody warranty management program and facilitate warranty claims and parts reliability for engineering which includes Mobile, CHPP and Underground assets
- Identify and implement continuous improvement strategies targeting safety, reliability & cost saving
- Ensure equipment meets reliability expectations in line with business requirements
- Identify and develop training systems to improve technician repair quality
- Ensure business processes and controls are followed in accordance with established procedures
- Monitor ongoing compliance with budgets for each area or process and take actions as required for compliance and to meet forecasts
- Demonstrate proactive safe leadership to all employees and contractors by utilising safety tools as required
- Constantly drive a performance culture by holding people accountable

About you:
- Possess or in the process of obtaining tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering
- Practical hands-on experience with mechanical mining plant and equipment
- Reliability engineering certificate of competence (Preferred, not essential)
- S1, S2, S3 competencies
- Experience in planning and execution techniques
- Proven ability to interpret technical reports
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing abilities
