About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential. With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

Come and be a part of this success.

About the Role

We support centralised, remote monitoring teams that use data and asset-health knowledge to detect equipment failures early and act before they cause downtime. We are looking for a Reliability Engineer with a strong reliability and data analysis background focused primarily on mobile equipment to turn alarm, condition and downtime data into proactive, high-confidence alerts on a modern predictive maintenance platform.

You will identify the failure modes that drive the greatest production loss across the mobile fleet and translate your equipment reliability expertise into proactive monitoring requirements, alert logic and response workflows. Working alongside data and platform specialists who develop and deploy the models, you will define, validate and continuously improve the conditions required to detect defects earlier and prevent unplanned downtime.

What you'll do

  • Analyse mobile fleet data - alarms, condition monitoring and downtime history to identify the failure modes driving the greatest production loss across haul trucks and ancillary equipment.
  • Design proactive, trend-based alerts that combine multiple signals to detect degradation earlier and with higher confidence than single-threshold alarms and define the action each alert should trigger.
  • Close the loop - use stakeholder feedback to refine models and alarm quality, and report reliability performance (MTBF, MTTR, downtime, noise-vs-actionable alert ratio) to drive continuous improvement.
  • Engage - engage with stakeholders to help establish the standards, processes and value framework needed to improve and scale the capability across sites and asset classes.

About You

  • Reliability experience on surface mobile equipment in a mining or heavy industrial environment.

  • Engineering degree (mechanical or electrical) or trade-qualified with demonstrated reliability / maintenance experience.

  • Strong data analysis skills - able to work with large alarm, condition and downtime datasets to identify patterns, trends and failure modes and translate them into actionable defect monitoring.

  • Applied reliability methods - RCM, FMEA/FMECA, RCA and condition monitoring (vibration, thermography, oil analysis).

  • A collaborative, structured problem-solving mindset with a passion for tackling complex maintenance challenges using data-driven insights.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the comfort to operate in ambiguity and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of 1SAP and Work Management in a maintenance environment.

  • Highly regardedExposure to predictive maintenance and operational data platforms (e.g. APM, Snowflake, Power BI, OEM/SCADA alarm systems)
