Renewable Energy Engineer

Work location: Perth, Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane (location flexible)

Roster: Monday to Friday

This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground level of a rapidly expanding, dynamic, global green energy business.  Fortescue Future Industries is currently undertaking a rapid expansion and is seeking applications for a number of Concept Engineers.

FFI is developing a multi-GW scale portfolio of wind and solar generation projects for both grid connected and hydrogen production applications. Fortescue is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced candidate for the role of Renewable Energy Engineer. Reporting to the Concept Engineering Lead, the Renewable Energy Engineer will apply their resource assessment knowledge to shape and drive the technical direction of the development of these renewable generation projects across Australia.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting Regional Managers, together with other stakeholders, will support in all technical activities ranging from site identification, through concept development and to detailed design of renewable energy generation facilities Conducting engineering analysis, project design work, performance assessments and energy generation / resource forecasts and analysis in accordance with FFI internal standards and best industry practice.
  • Preparing, scoping, documenting, and overseeing world class climate monitoring campaigns.
  • Undertaking data collection and analysis to drive effective decision making.
  • Providing technical expertise on wind and solar technology and keep abreast of latest trends and future developments.
  • Supporting coordination of external consultants and internal business functions working on various aspects of renewable energy projects on behalf of FFI
  • Supporting ongoing improvement of FFI internal renewable energy project standards and procedures in relation to all relevant aspects of the development, construction, and operation.
  • Provide value-adding engineering support to internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Raises issues and conflicts, remove barriers, resolve issues involving stakeholders and escalate to appropriate level when required.
  • Collaborates with transition to later project stages.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering discipline (Renewable Energy, Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Good knowledge of industry standard wind and/or solar resource assessment software and t industry best practice in design of wind power plants
  • 2+ years of proven experience in wind and/or solar Engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizing skills to coordinate project activities.
  • Excellent engagement skills across all business levels
