LOCATION
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer is the civil/geotechnical engineer responsible for the tailings dam onsite during operation, construction and closure, and ensures adherence to the implementation requirements of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy, the role will be available on a permanent basis on a 4:3 Mon – Thurs FIFO roster from Brisbane or Townsville.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- Accountable for the integrity of the tailings facility
- Responsible for liaising with EOR, DoR, construction, operations, planning, regulatory affairs, social performance, and environment teams
- Responsible for implementation of the design
- Accountable for the establishment of a change management system
- Responsible for the monitoring system and communication of the results to the EOR, including performance reviews
- Responsible, with the EOR, for the Construction Records Report
- Responsible for the OMS Manual and associated documentation
- Demonstrate a commitment to Cannington’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and manage the potential environmental impacts of work activities in accordance with South32 and Cannington standards and procedures
- Taking the initiative to improve your work, the overall business and promote the goals of the organisation
- Working effectively and collaterally with immediate colleagues and others in cross-functional relationships, on tasks within the context of South32 Cannington’s vision
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will need to have the following:
- Engineering degree qualification in relevant engineering subject (civil, soil mechanics, geotechnical)
- Recognised tailings dam experience in design, construction and/or operations
- Consulting background/exposure to multitude of settings/operations
- Extensive knowledge of tailings storage facilities and water dams
- Understanding of technical standards and regulations
- Auditing and training skills
