ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a Permanent position on a 9-day fortnight working week, at our Worsley Alumina Refinery, which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (45 minutes) and other nearby scenic communities.
As the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer you will be responsible for the integrity of the tailings and water storage facilities on site during operation, construction and closure phases of these facilities.
The RTFE should understand the tailings and water storage facilities for which they are responsible, the risks, and the manner in which those risks are being managed, including any failures, deficiencies, or opportunities for improvement. They should be regularly informed by evaluations of performance and review of results conducted as part of the tailings management system, results of the tailings safety review process and be apprised of any significant developments in between these activities, including production and ore body changes.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Accountable and responsible for the integrity of the TSFs during their operation, construction and closure
- Implement and maintain the Tailings Management System ensuring compliance with Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM)
- Provide regular updates to the Accountable Executive and senior management on the safety and performance of the TSFs
- Liaising with EOR, DOR, construction, operations, planning, governance, regulatory affairs, social performance and environment teams
- Implementation of the design of the TSFs and planning of remedial works
- Define and develop clear project deliverables for tailings expansion, deposition, geotechnical investigation and dam safety projects
- Water management of the TSF and associated infrastructure
- Lead the monitoring of TSF and water dam performance
- Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manual and associated documents
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design, construction, operation and monitoring of TSF and water dams
- Recognised tailings dam experience in design, construction and/or operations
- Consulting background/exposure to multitude of settings/operations
- Extensive knowledge of tailings and water storage facilities
- Understanding of technical standards and regulations
- Ability to communicate with and influence operational and engineering personnel
Qualifications for this position are:
- Engineering degree qualification in relevant engineering subject (civil, soil mechanics, geotechnical)
