About the role

Creating and protecting shareholder value is the reward of taking risks and this requires effective risk management. As the Risk Hub Lead – Brisbane, you will lead a dedicated team in regional risk management support for a diverse portfolio (such as Development & Technology, RTA Pacific Operations and Human Resources).

As a risk business partner, you will support leaders applying a risk-based approach to their decision analysis and core business processes such as strategy and business case development, planning and operational management. The role also guides functions that develop standards and controls in our pursuit of excellence.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong business acumen developed in a variety of operational and functional roles coupled with knowledge of leadership within our operations, either through having directly experienced operational leadership roles, or extensive time in the field supporting operational leaders
  • A proven track record of success in leading teams and growing, mentoring, and developing team members
  • A depth of experience in mining (underground, open cut) or minerals processing (smelting, refining)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience with demonstrated experience partnering with complex stakeholder groups, including senior leaders
  • Engaging speaker and presenter, ability to translate complex topics into simple to understand messaging appropriate to the audience
  • Strong analytical skills – demonstrated capability in synthesising a range of complex and disparate variables into integrated insights and crisp communications to support informed decisions
  • A track record of success leading high performing teams with demonstrated collaboration and influencing skills
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills

Where you’ll be working

This role reports to the GM Risk, a networked team within Group Finance. We partner with the business (Operations and Functions) to embed risk management into Rio Tinto’s core business processes and decision making in pursuit of both creating and protecting value. This role will be based at our Brisbane offices with the opportunity for flexible hybrid working.
