Newcrest is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Risk Specialist, to oversee all aspects of risk management for the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project – a significant portfolio program of civil works execution; to safely deliver a major upgrade of the Tailings Dam for Australia’s largest gold mine at Cadia.
You will work closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Develop and implement risk management strategies for the project.
- Visibly role-model safe and operationally disciplined leadership; through regular infield interactions including System Verifications, FCCC’s, VFSL’s and participation in the delivery of Newcrest’s Cultural Safety Program: New safe
- Identify and lead resolution of opportunities for improvement across the project from WHSE aspects
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements. Ensure project development is undertaken in accordance with Newcrest Gold Book and PMS requirements – including reporting.
- Collaborate with project teams to identify, assess, and manage risks associated with the project.
- Coordinate risk management efforts with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project risk registers to track risks and mitigation strategies.
- Provide risk management training to project team members and stakeholders.
- Analyse and report on risk management metrics and progress to project stakeholders.
- Manage the budget and resources assigned to risk management activities.
- Stay current on industry best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends in construction risk management.
- Provide insights by way of cost, schedule, progress, commercial and change control that informs strategic and managerial decision making throughout the project.
- Support third party/independent project reviews
The Risk Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale projects, strong project management skills, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
You will also possess the following:
- Significant experience in civil construction risk management at senior level; across numerous large-scale projects (infrastructure, roads construction, bulk earthworks or dam projects)
- Relevant construction / engineering qualifications (civil / mining / geotechnical), or business-based degree qualification (commerce / finance / law) with focus on risk management principles
- Strong knowledge of risk management principles, standards and regulatory requirements related to civil construction, with proven track record of successful risk management, administration, and mitigation techniques
- Demonstrable commercial acumen including negotiation, dispute management, contract and risk management
- Proficiency in project management software and other relevant tools and technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential roadblocks and develop strategies to mitigate risks and keep projects on track
- Ability to influence the team around you and ensure the risk management aspects of the project are well understood.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
