Rolling Stock Maintenance Planner/ Scheduler

About the role:

We are currently looking for a Maintenance Planner/ Scheduler to join the Planning and Productivity team at 7 Mile Rolling Stock Maintenance (RSM) Workshop.

This is a new and exciting role that is responsible for Planning and Scheduling maintenance on our Fixed Plant & Machine Shop assets that support maintaining our Rolling Stock Fleet.

About You:

We require an experienced planner that is an expert problem solver, level-headed thinker and most importantly committed to driving positive outcomes for the business. Resilience, self-motivation, and exceptional communication skills are essential for this role, as you will be required to interface with broad stakeholder groups, displaying credibility, building trust, and influencing outcomes.

Reporting to the Senior Planner – RSM Planning, you will be required to:

  • Be the custodian of the Rio Tinto Work Management Process for your area.
  • Detailed planning of jobs in SAP, ensuring that resourcing is accurate, materials are ordered, and the scope of work is clear and complete.
  • Produce a weekly schedule that aligns to production requirements.
  • Produce a monthly shutdown schedule that allows for extended planned maintenance activities to occur.
  • Facilitate the area planning meetings in accordance with the work management process.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant statutory and legislative provisions.
  • Participate in the development of the ZBB with the Long-Term Planning Team.
  • Identify and implement improvements during the planning and scheduling process to optimise resource efficiency and utilisation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement supporting the implementation of team improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain effective networks through collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in Planning / Scheduling with a high proficiency in SAP.
  • A highly organised, structured & detailed approach to planning with a strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to prioritise and coordinate large volumes of multi-discipline work.
  • Strong ability to analyse relevant performance metrics and determine improvement actions.
  • Excellent communication skills via all mediums with the ability to negotiate positive outcomes across multiple stakeholders.
  • High level of numeracy, literacy, and computing skills.
  • Hold a current "C Class" WA Manual Driver’s License.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Trade qualified, or equivalent
  • Experience in Shutdown Scheduling

Where you will be working

This role will be based at our 7 Mile Rolling Stock Maintenance, a short drive from the coastal towns of Karratha & Dampier. We operate 220 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometers of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals. The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometers with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
