Safety Advisor

Macmahon are currently looking for a Safety Advisor to join the HSEQT team at Byerwen Mine site.
Working a 5/2 roster and supporting the site leadership team this role will be responsible for monitoring compliance, providing advice on the application of the systems, processes and requirements of the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
Responsibilities include:
• Facilitate workshops and reviews of SHMS components including (but not limited to) the site Risk Register, Broad Brush Risk Assessment, Section 10 risk assessments, Change Management Risk Assessments
• Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of SHMS and Risk Management Standards to ensure that risk to persons from coal mining operations are at an acceptable level
• Facilitation of regular audits of on-site activities and equipment to determine compliance with the site SHMS and provide coaching or develop corrective action plans where gaps are identified
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the site Training Standard and associated systems and processes (LMS, VOC’s, Appointments and Authorisations)
• Coaching of leaders and supervisors in their obligations regarding compliance with and implementation of the SHMS and legislative requirements
• Ensure the contractor management system is consistently administered, implemented and maintained in accordance with SHMS requirements
• Ensure records and documents output from the above are maintained in accordance with legislative requirements
• Actively participate in the implementation of the site Field Leadership Program and associated activities
• Participation in emergency exercises and regular review of the site emergency management plan
• Maintain currency of knowledge in relation to safety and risk matters and legislation
• Maintain and update the Risk Register based on risks and hazards present on site
• Work with legislative bodies for timely reporting and close out inspection items
• Inspection and Maintenance of statutory records for personnel and assets
• Development and development and delivery of toolbox presentations when/as required
• Lead/Review and/or Moderate incident reports and investigations

Other qualifications and attributes required include:
• Tertiary qualifications in safety and risk (minimum Cert IV)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the coal/resources industry
• Working knowledge and experience of Queensland Coal Mining Legislation
• G189 (S123) – Communicate Information, Apply Risk Management Processes, Conduct Safety and Health Investigations
• G2 – Carry out the risk management process
• Cert IV Training and Assessment
• Investigation qualifications and experience (ICAM or Taproot) – minimum “Lead” level certification
• Strong technical and document writing experience
